Hi Friends of GPA Indianapolis,
Just a follow-up to the e-mail sent earlier this month regarding GPA Indy's
request for your assistance in securing Gift In Kind Donations for the
Silent Auction to be held at the Greyhound Picnic on September 24th.
The full details of the silent auction are in the original e-mail shown
below, but in short, we hope you'll be willing to make contacts with people
you know to help secure items that can be included in the silent auction.
Please keep in mind that the Gift in Kind Donations do not have to be "big
ticket" items. Any donation will be appreciated, and every dollar raised
through the silent auction will be another dollar to help the greyhounds.
Somebody helped our greyhounds at one time (Thanks!!!), and there are always
more that still need our help. If you choose to help GPA Indy with the
silent auction donations, I think you will be surprised at the positive
response you'll receive.
Honestly, response has been slow, so the deadline for submitting the Gift in
Kind Donations has been extended to September 15th.
To arrange for delivery or pick up of donations, please contact Tom Kortie
at tkindy at yahoo.com or call 317-849-3927 as soon as possible.
Thanks!

Original email sent to roster on 8/3/06:
GPA Indy's 5th annual picnic is on September 24th this year. At the picnic
we hold a "Silent Auction" which is one of the largest fundraisers of the
year for GPA Indy. The silent auction offers goods and/or services for
people at the picnic to bid upon. The highest bid at the close of the
auction gets to purchase the item, and all of the proceeds to go help GPA
Indy further the efforts in placing these awesome Greyhounds into good,
loving, forever homes where they can enjoy a happy retirement.
A key component to a fun, successful silent auction is to have enough goods
and/or services for people to bid upon. Securing these donated goods and/or
services, referred to as "Gifts in Kind", is where we need and will greatly
appreciate your help.
Everybody knows somebody, but not everybody knows a lot of people. That is
why we need lots of people (people just like you!) who may know somebody
that would donate goods and/or services to help the Greyhounds. Everybody
knows somebody. family & friends, neighbors, business associates, the guy
who makes your latte at Starbucks, your beautician, your pet food store
manager, a trusted veterinarian, and owners of businesses you shop at
regularly. Yes, everybody knows somebody. I am hopeful that with our
collective efforts, we will be able to secure many donations of "Gifts in
Kind" that can be included in the Silent Auction. These gifts in kind
certainly do not have to be dog specific items, and while the bidders at the
auction will definitely be dog friendly, they will have many interests and
likes that would make most any donation appealing to someone in attendance.
Along with goods and/or services, gift certificates and gift cards are
welcome donations too.
For record keeping and disclosure purposes, all donated Gifts in Kind need
to include the name of the donor and an estimated retail or fair market
value. Please be sure this information is included when the Gifts in Kind
are obtained from the donor.
It is not always easy to just ask somebody to give, but remember that it's
not for us personally; rather it is to help the Greyhounds. We all know the
love that these incredible dogs inspire, and at least for me, the dogs make
it easy to ask someone to help them in whatever way they can, and at
whatever level they are comfortable with. I am telling the people I am
contacting that their consideration alone is appreciated, and anything more
would be simply wonderful.
The attached letter on GPA Indy letterhead can be used as an introduction
when approaching people about donations. You can download this letter and
personalize it with your name for printing.
The deadline for securing donated gifts in kind for the silent auction is
Friday, September 1st. Please contact Tom Kortie to coordinate delivery,
pick-up or mailing of the gift in kind donations that you are able to secure
for GPA Indy. Tom can be reached at phone number 317-849-3927 or by e-mail
to tkindy at yahoo.com.
Your time and consideration to help GPA Indy produce a successful Silent
Auction will be greatly appreciated. They can't tell you in so many words,
but I am sure that the Greyhounds will be forever greytful for your help
too!!!
Best Regards,
Tom Kortie
