Hello Everyone,
The Quaker Day festival is only TWO WEEKS AWAY! SEPTEMBER 9th! We still
need volunteers to be in the parade, more importantly we desperately need
volunteers and hounds to staff the booth! As of today we have about 14
hounds to walk in the parade, and a handful of kids. WE NEED MORE HOUNDS
AND KIDS ! Last year we had about 24 hounds, we would like to have more
than that this year. I know that some of you were waiting to see what your
schedule would bring for that weekend, and if you still have no plans, that
would be a great way to spend a couple of hours! It is great fun to be in
the parade and the crowd is huge! The kids had a blast last year! The
hounds seemed to know it was there moment to shine and pranced down Main
Street with smiles on their faces! Our group generated a lot of interest
last year, which brought a steady flow of traffic, and MONEY to our booth
ALL DAY! If you are interested in working the booth, we would like to split
the shifts into two-hour blocks. Sharon Murphy will have her hounds in the
parade however, after the parade is over, she will need to take them home.
We need someone to cover the booth during the parade and while Sharon takes
her tired trio home for the day. We need at least two people to cover each
shift. 9-11,11-1,1-3,3-5. We will be in a shady area, both with the pop up
tent as well as natural shade provided by the trees on the property.
If you are interested in volunteering for the parade, you will need to plan
to be at the power company in Plainfield by 9:00 A.M. It is located at US
40 and Carr Road. You will need to enter from the Carr Road entrance! Then
look for the truck and Trailer marked with our signs, or all the wagging
tails! Please wear either a Red, White, or Blue shirt that day, and make
sure your hound is well rested! The parade will kick off promptly at 10:00
A.M.! The parade goes right down Main Street and is mostly downhill! The
best part is transportation back to your car after the parade will be
provided! So you only have to walk once! I will provide plenty of water for
the hounds, before the parade and after! We will have baskets of candy for
kids to throw to the crowd, and we will be handing out brochures along the
way as well! The float will be decorated and we will have music playing
the whole way!
So if you are in the mood to sit under a huge shade tree and talk about
greyhound adoption and shop at a really great festival, or you feel like
strutting your stuff down main street in Plainfield now is the time to
volunteer! We will participate in many events this fall, however, this
particular event is a lot of fun! We were so warmly welcomed in Plainfield
last year, with the dogs, they are very excited to have us back again this
year! This group has been very blessed with great volunteers, lets all
pull together and make a strong showing in Plainfield! Who knows, maybe we
will win another trophy this year.
If you are available to help out, in either the parade, or can cover a
shift at the booth, please contact us right away.! You can also find more
information on our events page.
Thanks for helping us out! Hope to see you all there!
Sincerely,
Michelle Carter
