I've heard that some lawn treatments can cause this reaction. Have either of
your yards been sprayed/treated?
Quoting CHAD HEMMER <c.hemmer at verizon.net>:
One of my grey's too ... has 4 flaming red feet ... went to the vet this
week ... got a shot of steroids and put her on over the counter claritin
(one 10mg tab per day) ... clearing up fast/nice .... vet says that there
are a lot of dogs with allergies this time of year and that dogs have most
of their "mast cells" (the cells that release histamine) in their feet ...
so that is where they blossom their rash ... people have them more evenly
distributed in our skin so we get hives all over our bodies.
my dog had no open wounds/sores so there wasn't a need for secondary
antibiotics for infection. vet had no good suggestions for the causative
agent ... my three other dogs don't have it ... so, just like some people,
one has more tendencies to allergies than the others.
petsmart also sells an over the counter spray for anti-itching ... has a
little lidocaine in it ... seems to keep my grey from licking all nite long
... i'm sure it soothes while the other meds kick in.
good luck.
