Hello Everyone,
GPA Indy has been invited once again to participate in the annual Quaker Day Festival and Parade in Plainfield on September8th. We will line up at 9:00 A.M. and the parade will kick off promptly at 10:00 A.M. Last year we had approximately 28 hounds that participated and we even won a trophy! GPA Indianapolis won FIRST PLACE!! We had an overwhelming response from the parade crowd as well as at our booth! Check out our winning picture on the front page of our website at www.gpaindy.org , scroll all the way to the bottom! ( The picture was taken by Tom Kortie )
So get your Red, White, and Blue Shirts ready! This year we have bigger plans! We will need a lot of help and support to pull it off though! This year we want more hounds and more KIDS! We will be passing out brochures and candy along the parade route! We also need four more kids to carry the GPA Banner in front of the group! We will line up at the Power Company and the parade route is approximately 1 mile. If you would like to participate but you or your hound are not able to walk for 1 mile, good news, you can still come! We will have a trailer for older dogs and people to ride on! We will also use that trailer to transport people and dogs back to their cars at the power company after the parade! Water will be provided for the dogs before and after the parade and we will have cold bottled water for volunteers as well!
We will also have a booth that will need staffed all day long, if you or your hounds could help out with that, that would be great! We especially need that booth covered during the parade! We would like to have 2-hour shifts at the booth, that way the hounds arent in the heat for too long! Also, Sharon Murphy and I would like to be able to leave our hounds at home, since this will be an all day event for us!
We also need donations to decorate the trailer! We would like to decorate it in a patriotic theme! We will be playing the song Who let the dogs out throughout the parade! If you arent able to attend the parade, but would like to donate either decorations or money to buy decorations please let me know! We will also schedule a decorating party for the trailer a couple of days in advance.
We would like to have AT LEAST 30 HOUNDS to participate in the parade and we would love for our current foster dogs to attend! This event draws a huge crowd, and generates a lot of interest in our booth that day. It would be nice to have fosters at the booth! If you are interested in participating in the parade, please contact Michelle Carter at avongreyhounds at yahoo.com , or if you can swing a couple of hours at the booth, please contact Sharon Murphy at smurph_01 at hotmail.com . Donations and participation are very important to make this event a success! Look forward to hearing from you all very soon! This is a great way to promote greyhound adoption, and show off your grey baby at the same time!! Look for email updates regarding directions and confirmation on times.
Yours Truly,
Michelle Carter
