Hello Everyone.

It’s hard to believe that the Quaker Day Festival Parade is only a few days away!! The Parade is Saturday, September 8, 2007! GPA Indianapolis is very popular both in the parade and at the booth! The town of Plainfield has welcomed the greyhounds for the last two years, and this makes year three! I think it could be our best year yet! Last year our group was awarded the First Place trophy for “Most Original Unit”! Our group and our popularity have grown in this event, and the dogs seem to enjoy being the center of attention, and the crowd loves them! We will have candy to toss to the kids in the crowd, and brochures to pass out as well. It’s a fun walk that runs right down main street for approximately 1 mile, and the best part is it’s DOWNHILL!! The parade will end at Franklin Park where we will have water for volunteers and dogs!! It’s a fun way to spend your Saturday Morning!

I would like to thank everyone who has already volunteered for the parade and the booth, and to let those of you who haven’t know IT’S NOT TOO LATE!! We have 24 dogs as of right now and WE NEED MORE!! We will have a decorated trailer/ parade float and will be playing the song “Walking the Dog” by Rufus Taylor! Thank you all for your suggestions they were all great! Even if you would like to participate but can’t bear the thought of walking a mile
.YOU CAN RIDE!!!! Water will be provided for the dogs as well as volunteers!!

Directions to the power plant are as follows. Take US 40 ( West Washington Street ) west into Plainfield. Turn Right (North) onto Carr Road, and enter through those gates. The Power Company sits right on the corner, directly behind Saint Susanna Church, and across the street from Do it Best Hardware. Please write down my cell Phone number 317-341-3945, in case you get lost or have any other questions that are not answered here.

Here are some important things to know.

   Get a good nights sleep!
WE NEED TO BE THERE AT 9:00 A.M. This is important because we have “surprises for the dogs to wear, and we need to go over last minute details!
The Parade kicks off promptly at 10:00 A.M.!!
Be Sure you check in when arriving with Me!!
We have several “jobs” for kids, so be sure to bring the whole family!
   There are NO restrooms available
. make sure you take care of “business” before arriving.
ONLY ADULTS CAN WALK DOGS IN THE PARADE!!
ABSOLUTELY NO RETRACTABLE LEASHES ALLOWED!!! Only Six Foot Nylon Leashes will be permitted!
Please wear Red, White, Or Blue Shirts, and comfortable shoes!
Please bring a plastic bag in case your dog leaves any “presents” before, after, or during the parade. We want to be invited back!
Feed your dogs a light Breakfast, and make sure they are rested.
Water will be available for the dogs before the parade and after, please make sure your dog stays hydrated!
After the parade, we will use the trailer to transport people and dogs back to their cars at the power plant. Patience will be greatly appreciated, we will get as many folks on the trailer as we can, but may have to make more than one trip!
We would like to get a group photo either before or after the parade so please either arrive early, or hang around after! We need a volunteer that can take great pictures of this event too
.. any volunteers with a good digital camera?
Most importantly HAVE FUN!! This is by far the most fun way to promote greyhound adoption!

If anyone has any questions that weren’t answered here, please let me know, I can’t thank everyone enough who has already volunteered! I am looking forward to seeing each of you and your hounds on Saturday!!

  Thanks Everyone.

Michelle Carter
